So my Rheumy thinks I should have both of these shots. What do you think? I think it's a good idea. But then again I hear stuff about it. My son is 16 and they are giving it out at school. I did sign the form allowing him to get it. It is just all so confusing. To get it or not to get it... that is the question??
Also it's been a little while since I have been here. I have had some good day and very few bad day. My Rheumy gave me a new Med this last week. But I thought I was getting a cold and had to postpone that till this Friday. Just to make sure i am not sick. Methotrexate and a Folic Acid. I hope this keeps me improving. I really do not want a down hill side at the holiday's. So if anyone has advice or comments about these new to me meds. It would be nice to have some feed back.
Thank you all! I hope everyone has a less painful day! Also hope we all are able to have pain free lives!
Peace, Love, and Health,
Meridith

My rheumy strongly advised me to get both. I got the H1N1 last week and had no effects at all. The day after the shot, the injection site was a little sore if I laid on that side, but that was it. My son (who has asthma) also had it, and he had no effects other than a little tingling in that arm for about a half hour. To me, the chances of getting H1N1 are much greater than the chances of any adverse reaction to the shot.
I have not had the seasonal flu shot yet. I wanted to wait a little while after the H1N1 just in case there were any effects. I plan on getting the flu shot either Friday or Monday.
Age 36, Dx May 2009, waiting to start new meds after bad experience with Plaquenil.

Hi Meridith,
You are too young to have been exposed to the Swine Flu in the 60s and 70s so I would think you need the vaccine. Perhaps if you catch the flu it wouldn't be as severe as it would be for a small child or teenager, but it's still not something you want!
I believe they are recommending the nasal spray for those under 25 and the shot for those under 54. I don't qualify since I'm "old" but I had the Swine flu in the 60s and it's no picnic!
Whatever you decide, I wish you well.
Hugs,
Gramma Ellie

Meridith,
Got my regular flu shot yesterday, just injection site reaction so far... I have never had a flu shot before this year. So we shall see! I will keep you posted.

I had both this year. We all did (Dave still needs H1N1, but he's military, so he'll get it sooner or later and the kids still need the booster in a few weeks). I wasn't sure I was going to get it b/c, of course, I had to explain RA to everybody before I got to the nurse (to assure them it was would be under the underlying conditions). It took a while to find the H1N1 shots and we had to wait in line at the county health dept. for an hour and a half to get them, but I'm glad we did!

Thanks everyone! My Rheumy highly recommends it too. So I will call my Reg. Doc and try to hunt it down.
I hear so many weird things sometimes. Just wanted to see what was being said on here.
I love this site and love all of you. So nice to have you all. I feel like such a weirdo asking all these questions every time I'm on here. But thank you all anyhow
