They (directions for any sub-cutaneous injection) usually caution you to stay away from stretch marks and veins. Not so easy for a skinny person whose belly bears the many marks of childbearing. Further, aiming at the front of the thigh was really painful because I tended to hit a muscle.
Your target should be a handful of unmarked flab. There used to be a gal posting here who was able to compress her arm in a door jamb and create an easy target. I never could figure that one out.
But here's what works for me. Prepare whatever medication per supplied directions. Then take a couple of alcohol wipes and the covered syringe into the bathroom. Put this on the counter, or on a clean towel on the floor, if need be.
Raise the lid of the toilet, pull down your pants as if you're there for other business. Sit down. You'll see that the upward push of the toilet seat creates a handful of flab on both of your upper thighs, right about where your holster would be if you were the Dodge City sheriff.
Grab ahold of said handful and wipe it down vigorously with one of the alcohol swabs. Note you can use either side (or alternate them) because it DOES NOT MATTER whether you're shooting toward you knee or your butt, or the floor for that matter.
Now get the syringe, and uncap. Look carefully and you'll see that the needle tip has a bevel, as if it were cut on the bias (which it is). The goal is to have the point of the bevel go first into your skin.
What I do is hold up the syringe (needle toward the ceiling) and expel any air - not that it would hurt you, but it's a good habit to get into. Then I determine exactly how to position the needle so the bevel point goes in first. With my free hand, I grab the target flab. Then I hold the syringe in my thumb and forefinger and insert the needle at about 45 degrees to 60 degrees. Once in, I let go of the target flab and use that hand to take over holding the syringe in place while my other hand is now free to push the plunger.
Then pull out the needle at about the same angle, and put the used syringe on the counter or floor. Please DO NOT try getting your pants back up while you're holding an uncapped needle!
In theory you'll end up with a syringe for the sharps box, a used alcohol wipe for the trash and an unused one for next time - unless you decided to switch target sites mid stream and used it (NOT the first one, please) to reswab.
