arthritus and blood thinners

Hi, I have a friend who was recently prescribd blood thinners. He also suffers from arthritis. He was taking fish oil, which helped. The Dr now advises against the fish oil as an anti-inflammatory, due to the blood thinning effects. Anyone know of any alternatives? Ginger maybe? thanx von
