Broken ankle 4x in past 2 years, Is this related to my RA or something else??

Hi!  I am 39 currently years old and was diagnosed with RA about 8 years ago.  In the past 2 years I have broken my ankle (the same one, same area) 4 times.  After both the 2nd and 3rd breaks my doc ordered a dexa scan which came back as normal each time.  I have had my calcium, vit D and all other blood levels checked on a routine basis and these have all come back as normal.  Does anyone have any ideas if this is related to my RA or am I just a freak.  The biggest mystery is that 3 out of the 4 breaks did not result from any trauma like falls or any type of injury.  I just wake up feeling intense pain in my ankle that is not your typical RA flare up pain.   My doc hesitats to put me on any osteoporisis meds since its not medically indicated by any of the tests that I have had and the insurance company probably won't pay for it either.    Any suggestions on what to do????

How long & how much have you taken steroids? Taking steroids over a long peroids of time will eat away at your bones. If you ankle was already a weak spot,The steroids just made it weaker,BUT,I know there's always a but.Don't you love how quickly they work to make you feel good on the surface.

Unfortunately/Fortunately, I haven't been on steroids for several years and when I was on them it was only for a few weeks. But thanks for your input. I am trying a bone growth stimulator to hopefully strengthen the bones in the area of the break.
