My dad has had RA since he was about 30.  He is now 67 years.  He had a triple bypass surgery 9 years ago.  He cannot take any of the medications out there to help with the inflammation and pain other than Tylenol.

His RA pretty much is everywhere and when he gets a flare-up he is in alot of pain and finds it extremely difficult to walk, move etc...

Is there anything that we can do for him to help when he gets such bad flares???

There are other medications beside anti inflammatory ones. Does he see a Rheumatologist? Surely, one of them can be used.

Hot shower helps, while you are in the shower.

How terrible he must be suffering. Please make sure it is a fact he can't take anything.

I agree with Anna. Surely there is something he can take besides Tylenol. A DMARD or a biologic? A trip to the rheumatologist is in order.

Hi, I would suggest Vicodin (up to 40mg a day) and the 12 hr morphine sulfate (low dose) - I know how he feels! I am 53yr old male who is prone to crying when I can't stand the pain any longer. I am ALWAYS in pain - feet, ankles, knees, lower back, elbows and hands... the only thing that does not hurt are my ears!!! And I agree with the rest of the group... get him to a Rhuemy asap.

I also have RA since i was 24 yrs. old now I'm 49 I been in all kind of medication and multiple surgery. Things are much more advance now. There are lots more medicine than back in the 80's. I also had open heart surgery. MY Rheumatologist put me in Orencia and I must say I feel much better. Take your Dad to a rheumatologist soon as possible. I'm sure they'll find something good for him.
