Has anyone had finger fusion (DIP) surgery?
Posted by: Darcy Searle on October 21, 2008 at 4:39PM EST

Hi!  I am scheduled to have finger fusion surgery on my middle finger next week.  I am wondering what to expect and what the pain threshhold is.  I am concerned about that because I have allergies to all standard forms of pain meds and the doctor is going to prescribe dilaudid for post-op pain.  I am also wondering if i will have to be casted (I read something online).  I suffer from inflammatory osteoarthritis (11 years now) have the hebernen's nodes on my first joints.  Not a pretty sight and at times very painful.  Thanks for all your input!

Darcy~

Sorry, Darcy. I'm not able to help you with information, but I do wish you the very best success with the procedure. Have you spoke with your doctor or his assistant about your concerns? God Bless!

Thank you for your good wishes. I have spoken with the doctor, but I would also like to get some feedback from others who may have gone through it. I did not expect my doctor to recommend this procedure but after many months of problems he felt this was the best for me now. Thank you again for your thoughts.

I am sorry that I do not have anything to offer, but wondered if you would share some of your trials and successes with me. i am in the diagnosing stages now. Have see the rheumatologist last week, waiting for test results, but he feels it is inflammatory osteoarthritis. I have two deformed fingers and 4 more in the beginning stages. I have tried Mobic, Celebrex..you name it. He is trying me on Feldene [piroxicam]. Have you found anything medication or therapy wise [even creams] that help? Best of luck and thank you in advance for any insight into this.

Hello, I am also scheduled for a middle finger fusion in November and I am little worried about having pins in finger after the surgery, the pain and how much i can use my hand after the surgery
