Hip Displasya

I'm a 34 year old woman who was diagnosed with hip displasya approximately a year ago. As a child I remembered waking up in the mornings and having to wait for my hips to crack before I was able to get out of bed and walk normally. My parents did take me to several doctors who only said that I must walk funny, be overweight(I wasn't), or have some sort of poor self image and needed attention. Ultimately, the problem was never addressed but it wasn't a big deal because it was just odd and it didn't hurt...until one year ago. My doctor was kind of matter-of-fact with his diagnoses and told me that there isn't anything that can really be done to treat the problem and the pain I was experiencing was the onset of arthritis. The best offer I was given was to treat the pain with over the counter meds and if I was interested, he would refer me to a physical therapist but because I was still relatively active I was really promoting my own therapy. I agree in that I'm not sure a therapist would be able to do anything for me that I dont already do physically and I take my meds as directed but sometimes the pain is crazy. there has been instances where I've tried to get up from sitting or lying positions and I fall. There are days that I limp around like I should have a cane. I can actually feel the swelling in my hip joints shoot pain down my thighs. If this is the 'onset'...I'm doomed! I have my good days too, don't get me wrong, but if anyone has any other suggestions please let me know.
