How and where to find an insurance for RA patient?
Posted by: Lily55 on September 10, 2008 at 7:18PM EST

Hi,

My father is from China and he is RA patient for over 30 year, he is 60 years old, recently he will come her for travel for 3 months. I am thinking to find insurance for him and since the RA is painful, and I am trying to find something to make him relief from the painful. So where and how to find an insurance that can cover it?

If I could not find insurance, how much will general cost to go see the doctor and order the medicine?

Thanks,

Lily

Lily,
Where do you live? If you're in the NYC area-I would recommend Hospital for Special Surgery in Manhattan. I've been a patient since 1995-and their social work dept may be able to assist you in low cost medications, subsidized medical care. There is also something called "emergency medicaid" , also here in NYC there's resources for the Chinese community-free and low cost medical care. If these don't help or you're not in the area, google pharmaceutical assistance-there are drug companies who offer medication for free and low cost-your dad would need to see a local physician-preferably a rheumatologist to get medications.
I use "Lidaderm" patches-non narcotic skin patches that really relieve localized pain-
hope this helps, good luck!
