Icy bones
Posted by: Lorraine on November 21, 2008 at 4:53PM EST

Hello,

Has anyone found relief from the feeling of ice cubes surrounding the bones; as if the cold has frozen the bone?  I know it sounds strange but I am constantly cold, hypothyroidism, and if I spend anytime outside or catch a chill inside the house I feel like certain bones(OA ones)are filled with ice.... Some relief is staying in a tub soaking in hot water... and I cant walk around hooked to a hot pad... any help would be nice..

Hello there,

I really don't know how really cold weather can affect my joints, since I lived in Miami, FL all my life. However, I do find a great deal of relief from heat. I know the hot packs aren't very practical for anyone who has a life, but they help. Are you feeling cold because of the weather or becasue of the hypothyroidism? If it's the latter then maybe your thyroids haven't regulated and may need a blood test to check your levels. I hope I've helped somewhat. Take care and God Bless.

I was diagnosed with Raynaulds syndrom six years ago and I often get the feeling that you are explaining... I tend to call it chilled to the bone....lol The majority of the time I keep a blanket robe on with hunting sox and slippers.... I look silly, but it helps to stay warm. I find it easier to stay warm then to warm up after I'm cold... I only have one caution---- If your feeling that chilled, be cautious of getting in or running hot water, as it may degrease your chance of being able to tell if its too hot or not....
Warm wishes!

I understand! For the last 3 winters I have lived with a blanket wrapped around my hips. Suggestions: Wear any extra undergarment (i.e. panty hose, "Cuddles" undergarment). I do the hot bath too.
Stay covered!

Just a note I am being treated for hypothyroidism for the last ten years and doc said no changes. Its just in the joint that has the ice pack feeling but usually as long as it 74 degrees in the house or outside I am fine... MY mom says its because I use to work in a hole in the wall factory that stayed at 90 to 100 degree year around and I thinned out my blood. LOL. Out of the 20 kids my Grandma had about 2\3 are hot all the time and the rest are divided between cold and normal... NOW heres the funny part I am like 60 pounds overweight !!! go figure!!!! AND CUDOS TO FLEECE & LONG UNDERWEAR !!!!
