Idiopathic intermittent hydrarthrosis
Posted by: Claudia Sanders on May 26, 2009 at 4:38PM EST
I have been having some strange symptoms that no one has been able to diagnose correctly. I went on the internet and found the above condition which perfectly described what I'm experiencing.  One of my knees swells every two weeks. It subsides on its own. It's very tight and uncomfortable because I can't bend it but there is no pain at all ~ ever.  I've had tests for Lupus, Lyme, RA which all turned out to be negative. I've had an x-ray and and MRI, neither of which showed anything. Is anyone familiar with this and how has it been treated? There are few articles and I haven't found anyone who specializes in it because it seems to be quite rare. I appreciate any help. I'm feeling pretty desperate because it has affected my ability to exercise and lead an active life which I was enjoying before this. It has swelled 9 times in the last 18 weeks. I also tried physical therapy and anti-inflammatories. The PT seems to have helped the symptoms slightly but I'd like to address the cause

 Thanks,
Claudia
