Osteoarthritis in feet
Posted by: tania thalkar on December 15, 2008 at 4:08PM EST
At 49 I have just been diagnosed with osteoarhritis in the metarsal / phalangal joints on both feet at the big toe. Now that I can no longer go on walks or do anything that causes pain in my feet, what can I do for aerobic exercise?

I have similiar problems but more in the knees though. I found water aerobic classes to be a good alternative. Search out classes taught through rehab centers or hospitals. They seem to provide the warmer water which is WONDERFUL for the joints and instructors seem more knowledgeable about arthritic limitations. Once you learn some routines you could even workout on your own. Good luck!

I have been diagnosed with osteoarthritis in both feet. It is painful during the day but at night it is much worse especially my big toes. I have taken obuprofen with a stronger medication so I can sleep at night. I have seen a podiatrist and a rheumatologist and they say there is nothing they can do. Any suggestions?
