question about the right shoes and walking
Posted by: Mel96 on September 22, 2009 at 9:58AM EST
Buying the right shoes...running or walking ones?  Was hoping to buy online or would it be better to get fitted?  I am 35 years, and the arthritis is in my feet, knees, hips, hand mostly.  I am trying to find an easy way and unsure how much I push. I went walking and feet and knees really hurt today.  Swimming is not an easy access for me? ideas for shoes and exercise...and do I stop before I even start if the pain is already there?

Hi Melody, I am in the same position and would like to know also what is the right type of boots. I try to walk about 6mils a day but the next day is very hard on my ankles.

Hi Melody. I'm 30 and have had arthritis for 2+ years now. I started walking at the beginning of summer, slowly starting and increasing as my body let me. I wouldn't push too hard if you think it's going to keep you from having a "normal" day the next day. I try and walk 3 times a week, between 1-2 miles each time. I find that at 2 miles my feet and ankles are telling me to stop. It helps to get a foot rub too after and possibly the next day if I can. =) I just have normal walking shoes from JcPenny, they're called New Balance. They're pretty comfortable. Best of luck!
