Biologics: Are they really helping?
Posted by: SassySyl on September 10, 2009 at 7:01PM EST
I am wondering how many of us here are taking a biologic? And is it working for YOU the individual?

I am on MTX, Humira and Prednisone. My Rheumy is toying with the idea to introduce another biologic since the Generic companies will be offering cheaper forms of these drugs.

And do you buy into the information that these biologics have a life of 5 yrs. making us feel better? And what does this really mean for us?

I am struggling as much these days with hands and spine issues. I have also been told I have organ involvement-whatever this is suppose to mean.

I'm just wondering I guess--trying to get past the pain of today...

Thanks.

Hi Sassy,

You might post again over on the RA message board forum. It gets a lot of visitors, so you may get more responses.

I'm on enbrel and mtx. I started on remicade, then went to humira, and have been on enbrel for several years now.

It has helped a lot, but I still have some swelling and pain, but nothing like in the early days of RA.

RA can affect our heart, lungs, eyes, so its important to try and get the inflammation under control.

Take care, maybe see you over on the RA forum.

There will not be a generic ENBREL offered unless the laws are changed. It is very difficult to produce this medication.
This is OK with me because I want to believe that Enbrel is produced now under the toughest standard.
